Overcome Indigestion & Bloating With This Delicious Digestive Spice Blend

"Churnam" is the Ayurvedic term for powdered spice or herb blend. Churnams are used in both cooking and in medicinal preparations...which in Ayurveda are often one in the same ;) This tridoshic digestive churnam is a beautiful blend to make an after-meal tea with. It will aid in proper digestion of food, in all it's stages, so it's particularly helpful if multi-symptom indigestion is something you regularly deal with.

For one pot of tea, you'll need:

  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seed

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seed

  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander seed

Directions:

  1. Add your 1/2 teaspoon of each spice to a teapot.

  2. Boil enough water in your kettle to fill the pot.

  3. Once the water is boiled, add water to the teapot and let the seed steep for 10-20 minutes.

  4. Drink a small cup of your tea 20 minutes before and/or after meals.

  5. You can store leftover tea in a jar in the fridge to have on hand, but it is best to drink it warm to hot.

You can leave the seeds whole, or grind them up and put the powder into a cotton teabag to steep. Whole seeds will need longer to steep- at least 10 minutes. Even though it benefits digestion, don't drink a whole lot as it's not good to fill the stomach with too much liquid before or after eating. Probably keep it to a one teacup's worth per meal. The first time I made this tea I was a little wary of what it might taste like, but it's actually really quite nice! The more you drink it the more your body likes it. You may end up even craving it!
